Pre-1996 Vacation Payback
DPD Human Resources conducted an audit of vacation time and as a result, officers hired prior to 1996, who were forced to take vacation immediately upon graduation from the Academy, and prior to having accrued any time, were being told this “forced” vacation would have to be paid back upon separation or retirement from the Department.
The PPA filed Step 1 under the CBA’s grievance process.
As a result of the Step 1 grievance meeting with the PPA, the City reversed its position, will cease making these deductions, and any affected officers will be made whole. Officers owned vacation time will have those hours added to Telestaff.
This is great news. HR will contact all affected officers.
