PPA General Membership Meeting – Friday, August 13
Thank you to all members who attended August’s general membership meeting. Please know your voices are heard and will continue to be heard, and the PPA continues to work on an alternative to the Mayor’s August 2 health Order.
For those who were unable to attend, below is a handout on the legal issues surrounding this Order and some good information on what to do to file a worker’s compensation claim should you have a reaction to the vaccine.
As was discussed at the general membership meeting, the PPA reached out to other Denver employee-representative groups and met this afternoon with the Denver Sheriff’s Union and Denver Firefighters IAFF Local 858 to discuss unification and partnering regarding the issues with the Mayor’s mandatory vaccine order; both groups expressed and shared our same concerns. Together, we are working on authoring a joint demand letter to the Mayor for an explanation of the ramifications, consequences or disciplinary actions of this health order, and confirmation this vaccine, any adverse reactions, and any future aftermath is covered under worker’s compensation. Denver Public Schools Amalgamated Transit Union, SEIU Local 105 (healthcare, mental health, maintenance workers), local Teamsters, healthcare workers from Denver Health and Hospital, Denver Sheriff FOP Lodge #27, DCTA (Denver Classroom Teachers Association), and others were invited to today’s meeting but were unable to attend. We are optimistic these groups and others will be additional labor support and participate with this demand. More information will be provided early next week. Keep in mind all the deadlines; get your exemptions submitted and our attorneys are available.
Stay tuned!
